Company Profile
Paperchain Co-operative was set up in 1990 as a
community-based office paper recycling project which
later expanded into security shredding, textiles and cardboard shredding for
animal bedding.
It is a not-for-profit workers' co-operative whose members
are committed to equality of status and pay. Although, like
most businesses, the co-op aims to make a profit in order
to maintain its existence and invest in new ideas, individual
members do not profit beyond their wages.
In the earlier years Paperchain provided a free collection service for
recyclable office paper but at the beginning of 1999, in the face of very low
paper prices, modest
'annual membership' fees were introduced and accepted
by most of our customers.
Paper prices will continue to fluctuate and competitors will
come and go as opportunity allows, but we continue to be appreciated by
businesses, charities, schools and public
offices, both large and small, and we hope and expect
Paperchain will go on serving the city of Exeter and the
surrounding area well into the future.
